Dublin 2050: A Vision for Dublin

What do the people and businesses of Dublin want their city to be like in the future? That’s what we set out to discover when we launched the Dublin 2050 initiative in 2016.

Eighteen months later, we shared the fruits of the project in the form of 'A Vision for Dublin 2050', a 48-page document which provides a fascinating insight into how the people of Dublin expect, hope and need their city to evolve over the coming years and decades.

The survey findings provide a roadmap for how people and businesses want Dublin to develop. We've listened to this feedback and used it to reshape the Chamber's policy agenda.

A key part of our 2050 work is to encourage decision makers in Ireland to think bigger about their plans and ambitions for Dublin. To help provoke increased discussion about better long-term planning and development, the publication of our 2050 vision was accompanied by a Dublin 2050 video, which can be found here. The video offers a provocative look at how Dublin might look in the future, based on some of the more 'interesting' answers that were given to The Great Dublin Survey.

In 2018, the Chamber held a number of National Conversation workshops in the other main Irish cities (Cork, Waterford, Galway & Limerick). These events saw local people and businesses come together with Dublin Chamber representatives to discuss Dublin's future and also its role as the national capital.

There has never been a more important time to talk about Dublin’s future. As the capital of Ireland, and the powerhouse of the national economy, it is vital for everyone that Dublin works. Dublin Chamber's aim in establishing the Dublin 2050 initiative was to explore the need for better long-term planning in the Dublin region.

The Great Dublin Survey - More Details

A key part of the Dublin 2050 initiative during 2017 was The Great Dublin Survey – a series of thought-provoking questions that we put to the people of Dublin – and also anyone with an interest in the city’s future. The aim of the Survey was to capture the ideas, hopes, wants and aspirations of all these people.

Getting people to open up was easy as the conversation about Dublin’s future was already taking place. Dublin Chamber set out to ignite that discussion. We succeeded too, with more than 20,000 people filling out the survey and in excess of 1.4 million people engaging with Great Dublin Survey content.

When it comes to quality of life, Dublin currently sits outside the top 30 cities in the world. Dublin Chamber wants to see Dublin rise up those rankings and challenge the world's best cities for the standard of living that they offer.

Over the coming years, we will to continue to work to make Dublin a better place to work, live and visit, both for current and future generations.
